So what has the Union done for you lately?

  • Our current contract guarantees an annual raise that is tied to the Consumer Price Index. This August all of you received a 3% raise for the 4th year in a row. Compare that to other non-union academic part-time employees at College of DuPage, most of whom have not received a raise in 16 years! We earn more than the non-CODAA new adjuncts, as well.
  • All members of the bargaining unit receive right-of-assignment before non-CODAA adjuncts. This guarantees you a minimum of 4 student contact hours per semester, which could be 1 or 2 classes. If you don’t get your minimum assignment, you must contact us so we can go to bat for you!
  • CODAA adjuncts now get paid to do the required annual training! We fought hard for this one. It should be in your December check.
  • Union Representation for any disciplinary meetings (we are currently arbitrating for a fellow CODAA member who was, in our opinion, unfairly fired)
  • Extra Duty pay for serving on College Committees or doing other extra work that is not part of teaching your assigned classes. If you feel you are being asked to do unpaid work, let us know, we can help!
  • $500 in Professional Development funds that can be used for professional association memberships, attending conferences, books, recertification testing and professional journal subscriptions.
  • CODAA is preparing to negotiate a new contract RIGHT NOW. Our contract ends in May 2025, and without the union and a new contract, ALL of you would get a significant pay cut back to the entry level rate. If the percentage of dues-paying members stays below 50% (we are at 49.1% now) the College can request the Illinois Labor Board DISBAND our union, and everyone would go back to the way it was 25 years ago, with none of the benefits listed above. We don’t want that to happen! We will be fighting for better pay and fair labor practices for everyone in the bargaining unit. Please consider becoming a dues-paying member, at least for this school year!
  •   Our parent union, the IEA, is critically important to our work. They provide us with legal advice every week, and an IEA advisor will be at the bargaining table with us and help us every step of the way. Our IEA advisor also attends disciplinary and grievance meetings to help us protect our members from unfair treatment. Your IEA portion of the annual dues pays directly for this assistance.
